I haven't been posting much on my instagram this week so I'm doing a bigger update here. It's been almost one month in Chile and here's what I'm doing.
Homesickness: I predicted that I would start getting homesick around the 1 month mark and I was dead on. I mostly miss the familiarity of Alaska, always knowing where I am and knowing what I can and cannot do in the house. I miss being able to hang out with friends and go all around town. I don't really miss my family yet (Sorry mom and dad).
Things I'm having trouble with:
The communication with my host family is sometimes a problem. I never know what we are doing that day. For example: I went into the kitchen yesterday to get a snack and they said we were going somewhere, they were all dressed and ready to go. I didn't even know where we were going, so I just threw on a jacket and shoes and left. Turned out we were going someone's birthday party for around 5 hours. Also, we don't get out of the house much, I feel kinda bad asking to go and do stuff because both of my parents work and we live far away from most things. I'm in my room most of the time and don't really know what to do, there isn't much to do around the house. Any ideas of what to do would be greatly appreciated. I would really love to get outside and go on a hike, I want to get to know Chilean nature. Another thing is socializing with the kids at school. I haven't been successful at making any good friends yet. I've also only been to 7 days of school because we keep having holidays. I am very quiet because I'm not advanced enough yet to add to their conversations. I always feel like I am just following them around like an annoying little kid. My host sister and I don't talk very much so I feel kinda lonely in the house and at school most of the time.
I've made a Chile bucket list of things to do around the area:
1.Parque Safari
2.Reserva Nacional Rio Los Cipreses
3.Hacienda Picarquin
4.Alpacas machali
5.Generally just Hike
I also joined the schools volleyball team, but it is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday after school. I will have to pack a lunch (which is the only cooked meal of the day) in the morning and bring it to school. I don't know how much I'll like it, but I might as well try it out. Hopefully I can make some really good friends on the team.
Well that's my month one update. Sorry it is a bit short, but hopefully I remember to do one next week that will be a bit longer. Ciao!!

Thanks for the update Kenna. Don’t be shy about asking for help at your host rotary club meeting. If you get a chance to speak, tell them you love to hike and ask if anyone could take you out.
