So far, I've had my country assignment for 1 week and I've already gotten a lot better at Spanish. Before that, I knew the very, very basics of Spanish. For example, casa, rojo, hola, and como esta. But now, I can put together basic sentences. I'm lucky enough to have a dad that knows a little Spanish. He's been really helpful in teaching me things, like how to change words from dictionary form into present tense and how to say simple sentences. I can now read basic Spanish a lot better than before. I'm actually very surprised at how fast I am learning Spanish. I bought children's books in Spanish and, while reading them, I translate each word, which really helps in learning. I used to barely be able to say, "Hi, my name is Kenna." But know I can do a simple introduction. I can still barely count past ten, but know most of my colors. I can understand simple questions and answer with a simple answer. I'm learning what everyday objects are, like door, pencil, pen, window, and cup. One thing that is really helping me learn is watching my shows on Netflix with Spanish subtitles. I don't watch with the Spanish audio, because I still want to know what is happening. My favorite show that is teaching me the most so far is "Supernatural" or "Sobrenatural" in Spanish. So far, only one week in, I've gotten a lot better at speaking and reading and am on the road to success.
This is the slide I made to practice introducing basic things about myself. I was very impressed on how little help I needed. I knew most of the words and most of the grammar.
I would recommend Mango.
It’s a language app that you can speak the words and or sentence into the phone so you can see if you are saying it correctly. I’m so excited for you! ⭕️❌
