Chile Week 2

I said this last week but these blogs are just recaps of what happens on my Instagram @kennainchile which is linked at the bottom of the home page.

My family and I went to many volleyball games which made me happy. After that, we had dinner, which for me is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some goldfish. My culture shock is just me being sad that they don't sell goldfish here.

The next day I went back to the school with my host mom to watch the Olympics but ended up helping her at concessions. My host mom and I and many other people made completos. Completos are hotdogs with diced tomato, avocado and a choice of mayo, ketchup, and mustard on top. Once we got home I showed my host mom a youtube video of my school playing volleyball. She was surprised at how tall the girls were. We also went to the supermarket. We found the American food section which consisted of Macaroni and cheese and about 300 jars of peanut butter. Also, they keep all the milk out in the open here which I thought was very strange. In addition to that most thing that would be in jars or bottles in the US are in bags here, like jam and ketchup.

A lot of the time I have no idea what is happening that day, actually most of the time. I kinda just roll with whatever happens. I'd be writing a blog and all I hear is "Vamos Kenna" and I just put my jacket and shoes on and go. One day this happened and I didn't ask where we were going and we ended up going to the uncle and aunts house for the whole day. They might have told me the day before and I just didn't understand. We talked for a long time and ate some really good food. We also played a game called mafia, which I had played before so I thought I would be really good. Ended up being a completely different version and I had no idea what I was doing.

At breakfast the next day my host mom asked if I wanted to see her workshop, I did not even know she had a workshop at all. We went to the backyard and she revealed a small building that was painted almost like a dollhouse. We went inside and the ceiling is just above your head. There was a table and many windows and supplies everywhere. She told me that she makes and sells soap and that she makes it on Tuesdays in her shed. She had all kinds of molds, even many Star Wars ones. She had many different scents and herbs to put into them. I also had some hot chocolate which is a very American thing, it reminded me of home there was only enough for around 2 cups though.

At lunch the next day we had some mashed potatoes and steak, before I came here I didn't like mashed potatoes very much but now I know the secret is to put some steak broth on top of it. Also, I accidentally left some candy in my suitcase from orientation that my "pet" ants found. I call them the Jerrys. They forced me to unpack all of my stuff so I could get them out of my suitcase.

Day 14 of my exchange was a pretty good day for me. We had some really good homemade French fries. We also went to the closing ceremony of the Schools Olympics. My school won overall. There were a lot of flashing lights at the end that gave me a headache that lasted until the next day. At dinner, my host mom surprised me with a new tub of hot chocolate :)

My goal for next week is to find something really fun we can do in the area. I would love to see some of the beauty of the places around me and also get good at guitar by the end of the year. From how I'm doing with homesickness, I'm not homesick and feel like its gonna be a while until I am. My method is to have a steady connection with my parents (sorry rotary), this is just what I thought what works best with me. I keep in mind that I'm going to see them again. I miss my dogs a little though but I knew that was going to happen.

That's it for my week 2 update but if you want some more there is my Instagram with photos and my youtube channel with videos.
